The Range

Target + Bots

In this exercise, we go through a routine that focuses on practicing counter-strafing in The Range.

  1. Setup
Load into The Range, select the Sage as our agent and pick up a Vandal from the armory.
  2. Counter Strafe Routine
Go through the Routine to practice our counter-strafing.

Counter Strafe Routine

(Step 1) One shot Counter Strafe / 5-10 minutes
During the first section, we practice Counter Strafing around a corner from both left and right.

(Step 2) Two Shot Counter Strafe / 5-10 minutes
Next up, we practice Counter Strafing back and forth left and right, taking shots between every strafe. When comfortable taking shots at every strafe, we can start aiming as well, trying to get every shot onto the center of the target.

(Step 3) Counter Strafe vs Bots / 5-10 minutes
Finally, we take our learnings from the first two steps into the Training Bot area where we continue practicing. Using Sage’s Barrier ability, we place down a wall which we use to strafe around while shooting the bots. Then, to finish up, we practice shooting between every strafe as we move our crosshair between the bots and eliminate them.

Skill Focus

During this exercise, the sole focus is on practicing and building muscle memory associated Counter Strafing.

Counter Strafing is a crucial mechanic to learn and use when playing Valorant. By counter-strafing, we can stay evasive during engagements while still maintaining perfect accuracy, allowing those who master the mechanic to outplay their opponents and come out on top more often in gunfights.

Practicing counter-strafing in The Range is the best way for us to learn and get comfortable with the mechanic before moving on to matches versus other players.
